Small and Medium Enterprises in an International Cont Essay
Small and Medium Enterprises in an International Cont - Essay Example After 2 years, she moved to a new place in the same locality of North Yorkshire where there was a separate place for showcasing the new designs and she had a workshop for stitching. She had hired tailors and bought new machines and had started to produce dresses for various sizes. Now in 2007, Noni has a team of designers working for her for which she is the creative head. She has a tailoring place, where she has a group of tailors to bring her designs into form and shape. The total employee strength had become 75. The development of her business was financed through bank and Noni was able tor repay all of her bank loans within a period of eight years and by 2000 the business was established with steady profits. But recently there is a lull in the business. She had a few competitors in the area like the Jesslyn and the Mctavish families who were also making wedding gowns along with other gents and ladies formal wear. But Noni's designs, price and quality was much appreciated by the residents and in spite of the competition she was able to grow. Analysis of the reasons for recent slump in business showed that it was because of the e- commerce. After the advent of the internet, people were exposed to a lot of online sources, it was easier for people to buy new and used wedding gowns at very competitive prices. Though Noni believed that her gowns were of better quality compared to those sold online for the same prices as hers, the preference of people to buy online has increased. Hence, Noni has to devise a strategy to survive this competition from the virtual stores. Until now, Noni was concerned about the tastes and preferences of her immediate community which was her market. Also she was taking into account only the competition of her neighboring stores. But now anybody from across the world who has the taste to design gowns can start an online business and can steal a customer from Noni. Also, another factor which Noni has to consider is that, because of the advent of the information technology, consumers are flooded with information. People can easily access to fashion and trends in the major fashion capitals and they are very knowledgeable about the technicalities of making a dress. Hence, the expectation of the consumers has increased a lot. They compare the designs and costs from various shops not only in the neighborhood but also in US or in Europe and they know whether they are getting a deal or not. Hence, to survive and grow in this kind of an environment is a real challenge for Noni and her Best Bride. Survival strategy The strategy Noni thought about is that she wanted to carryout and extensive market research covering her whole neighborhood, but the dependency of the business on her and her financial conditions did not permit that. Instead she listed the strengths of Best Bride. These strengths were the factors which made her business grow in the first place. So she wanted to find out whether she had deviated from the factors which had contributed her growth. The two Ps she was concerned about like most of other SMEs were the Price and Product. It was true that her business was dependent on her and she was just tackling the everyday problems which had added to her strength in the area of designs and quality of the product. To tackle the competition from virtual stores Noni, thought about the following strategies: 1. Concentrate on the promotion 2. Enter new

Avon Rubber Diving Aggressively Into Rebreather Market Essay Example for Free
Avon Rubber Diving Aggressively Into Rebreather Market Essay Rebreathers, the subject of this article, are an exciting new technology. The background and chemistry of rebreathers is quite interesting in that they were largely improved upon and regularly used by a famous American cave diver, Bill Stone, who wanted to more deeply explore underwater cave passages. He demonstrated his rebreather in 1987 to the diving community. They allow a human to breathe for long periods of time either underwater or in a different atmosphere. Through a carefully controlled exothermic reaction in one partition of the device, they essentially ââ¬Å"scrubâ⬠exhaled carbon dioxide in order to allow it to be ââ¬Å"rebreathedâ⬠in a closed system, hence the name of the equipment (Tabor, 2010). This article, which was just published on June 18th of this year, cites an acquisition and expansion by a company, Avon Rubber P. L. C. , in order to manufacture rebreathing devices. The fact that this article exists highlights the fact that they are fast becoming more widely used and sought-after. One main focal point of the article is the fact that the US Navy has commissioned Avon Rubber for a rebreather device worth an initial estimated $30 million to the company. The article mentions their future uses in diving and military applications, and itââ¬â¢s of note that the company is expanding into several countries to further develop ââ¬Å"respiratory protection system technologyâ⬠(McNulty, 2013). This article leads this reviewer to think about the exciting future possibilities in exploration that the advancement of rebreather technology will lead to. However, the questions raised, in this reviewerââ¬â¢s eyes, largely have to do with the safety aspects of rebreathers and the social issues surrounding their military use. The knowledge that our military is spending huge sums on rebreathers leads to the questioning of the need for such technology in a military fashion (instead of in an exploratory manner by NASA, for example). The risk factors involved are also rather high, especially as the technology becomes more widely available. An inherent problem with rebreathers is the swift death that can occur from breathing in carbon dioxide that has not been sufficiently ââ¬Å"scrubbedâ⬠. As stated in the book Blind Descent, the user has no warning that the air they are breathing is tainted with insufficiently scrubbed CO2. Hopefully, this will be further perfected in advanced versions. Even though there will always be risks involved in their use, the very fact that we have been able to manipulate the chemistry of respiration in such a way is exciting in terms of human scientific advancement.

How the Dominican Republic Changed My American Middle Class Life :: Personal Narrative Culture Essays
How the Dominican Republic Changed My American Middle Class Life I am a product of American society. Born and raised in Racine, Wisconsin, I grew up in a middle class suburban neighborhood. Christian morals and values have been bestowed upon me since the day I was brought into this world. I was taught to love and respect others. I would have liked to think that I was the result of a well-rounded educational system. After all, I studied world history. I was also exposed to the horrors of third-world countries by watching the commercials on television crying out for money to help those children with bellies bloated of air and disease eating their bodies? And of course, I will never forget the tragedies of oppressed nations so eloquently represented in the daily editions of the Journal Times. Every morning I sat in my kitchen, scanning the daily paper over a cup of coffee contemplating my daily routine. Should I take the Nissan or the Toyota to school today? Jeans or khakis? Bagel or cereal? All of the essential elements of an average Americanââ¬â¢s schedule that clutter my brain with decisions seemed to overwhelm me early in the morning. On a usual morning, I would choose the Nissan, a gas-guzzling beast that had become the recent fad among American consumers. I would stroll into school wearing my Gap jeans and J-Crew tee shirt, conscious of the casual look I chose to sport. I would start my day mingling amongst my friends, all remarkably similarly dressed and groomed. We would discuss the all of the pressing social issues: if Joey and Pacy broke up on Dawsonââ¬â¢s Creek, where we could buy the latest New Balance shoes, and most importantly, who would have the party on Friday night. Throughout my years in high school, I also became an amazingly cultured individual. Six black people attended my school and I was a friend to all of them. Antheaââ¬â¢s parents were even from Africa. I also familiarized myself with Indian culture as Pikul Patel was a classmate of mine since grade school and I talked to him too.

The Tragic Hero: Creon or Antigone? Essay -- Character Analysis, Greek
In the Greek tragedy Antigone, the characters Antigone and Creon can both be thought of as the tragic hero of the play. Though Antigone does show some of these characteristics of a tragic hero, Creon demonstrates the attributes more clearly and concisely. Creon is the King of Thebes, as well as the uncle of Antigone. Creon took the throne after a tragic quarrel between his two nephews, Eteocles and Polyneices. Despite his harsh governing and his crude ideals, he is not good or bad. Creon is the tragic hero of the play Antigone, because of his superiority in his society, his nobility, and his tragic flaw, self-pride. Creon was known as the antagonist King in Antigone. A sample of Creonââ¬â¢s antagonist actions is quoted: ââ¬Å"â⬠¦Polyneices, I say, is to have no burial: no man is to touch him or say the least prayer for him; he shall lie on the plain, unburied; and the birds and the scavenging dogs can do with him whatever they like.â⬠(Sophocles 1. 43-46) Though he is known for negative things, he is still perceived and still superior to every Theban. Antigone was known in the society as the princess; but, she did not show herself as a grand and known person. Creon is proud of his position in society and is prideful of his city and his decisions. Creon said proudly, ââ¬Å"You forget yourself! You are speaking to your King!â⬠(Sophocles 5. 66) Creon exhibits the trait of superiority almost to the point from this quote. Antigone, however, is only recognized for being the princess of the former king and committing an act of civil disobedience against King Creon. Creon and Antigone are also comparable in the area of nobility. Creon was the brother of Oedipus, the former king of Thebes. Quoted by Choragus, ââ¬Å"But now at last is our new King is comi... ...t Creon was; however, he does understand how imprudent he was as a result of his own actions. After reading this argument, it is hoped that readers recognize that Creon is the tragic hero of Antigone. Creon and Antigone are both main characters of the play, but Creonââ¬â¢s character explains a tragic hero more so than Antigoneââ¬â¢s. Creonââ¬â¢s superiority to his society, his nobility, and his tragic flaw self-pride assists in proving this topic. Because of Creonââ¬â¢s in-depth characteristics and unusual position in the story, it makes Antigoneââ¬â¢s character seem like a minor character once analyzed. Almost every reader claims that since Antigone is the protagonist, the main character, and a princess, she is certainly the tragic hero. All in all, Creon is the tragic hero of the Greek Tragedy, Antigone by only three characteristics: superiority, nobility, and self-pride.

Moral Sentiments Essay
Pursuit of wealth is a necessity for a proper and well standard life in todayââ¬â¢s world. Wealth is an essential commodity today and one has to have it for a respectable living and that is why people are in a run to achieve it not matter the opportunity cost. The main question is that is money always worth all the opportunity cost and is its achievement at all cost a right or wrong thing? These are the basic points that I will be discussing in my paper below with respect to my opinion of the poor manââ¬â¢s son situation, as described by Smith in The Theory of Moral Sentiments, that he was not mistaken in setting out on the path of wealth acquisition and further on I would discuss what I would have done if I was in the same situation.. There is no doubt to the fact that wealth is necessary for a comfortable living. Wealth improves the quality of life by providing a person with the luxuries he carves for and with the satisfaction of these cravings comes utility which in result makes a person feel good. There is more to life than living in a budgeted amount every month and feeling content with whatever is within ones limited achieving power. Life is about exploring new horizons, about enjoying it to its fullest and in todayââ¬â¢s world all of this cannot be achieved without money. It provides a person with a sense of peace because with money comes power to achieve every material thing possible. Lack of money do not makes one life hassle free or tranquil but instead provides one with the tension to achieve even the basic necessities of life which now are not available without money. Hard work is necessary to achieve great things in life, laid back attitude do not take a person anywhere. High achievers do not let fate decide for them but work hard enough to have their fate in their own hand so pressuring oneself to achieve more in life and test one limits is actually the correct way to life live as per me. While it cannot be denied that more utility comes from enjoying the beauty of a garden then seeing a machine work as Smith explained in The Theory of Moral Sentiments, but it can also not be ignored that with the power to buy or have things one need which comes with the expenditure of money also provides a different sense of utility to a person. So I donââ¬â¢t think that the poor manââ¬â¢s son did anything wrong in working hard to fulfill his wants and dreams and instead of being critical of him one should appreciated him for fulfilling his dreams in the right manner, he at least did not cheat or lie his way to achieve what he wanted. I would have done the same had I been in his position. I would have also worked my way to achieve money if I had wanted it. But I would not have done that at the expense of that happiness in life which comes naturally along the way and have nothing to do with the amount of money one possess like enjoying a friend birthday treat, having time to enjoy the beautiful scenic beauty around me etc. I would have maintained the level of balance in my life with my priorities set in a proper order and money would be one of my priorities but not the top most priority. So I support the poor man sonââ¬â¢s in his struggle to achieve what he wanted to achieve and his hard work is commendable but I think that he should have made money the only motive of his life and instead had enjoyed things coming in his life along the way because thirst for money can never be quenched so one should know the limit to have it if one want a peaceful n emotionally n spiritually better life. The one site that was immediately disregarded Essays
The one site that was immediately disregarded Essays The one site that was immediately disregarded Paper The one site that was immediately disregarded Paper To begin evaluating the available sources for a discussion of health care reform or socialized medicine, an internet search for organizations purporting to support health care reform was conducted. As expected, there were hundreds of to the topic. Below are four of the top 25 websites listed. Some are potentially interesting, but their information would need to be verified with additional sources because of the inherent bias in the site. One was completely unusable. The other three websites will be used as initial research ââ¬Å"jumping off pointsâ⬠and will be supplemented by peer reviewed articles found in the J-STOR database of science and social science literary journals.à In addition, the American Medical Students Association has published a position paper explaining their call for socialized medicine which will be incorporated into my future research. The one site that was immediately disregarded as a potential source is called the ââ¬Å"World Health Education Initiativeâ⬠. At first this site is deceptively interesting, calling the American medical system the third leading cause of death in the United States and advocating reform in medical practices, insurance companies and health care delivery systems. It is only upon deeper inspection that one discovers that the ââ¬Å"Initiativeâ⬠is an effort to create an on-line medical school which replaces traditional medical educations. The site is operated by a company which creates online learning products and which argues that the reason health care costs are so high is that the cost of a medical education is so prohibitive. While at first this argument seems appealing, it loses it luster when the siteââ¬â¢s author argues that the problem with medical schools is that they donââ¬â¢t teach doctors anything other than the ability to memorize information for tests. The site argues that medical education could be done online with few, if any, tests and that the cost savings for a medical education would then be reflected in costs of health care.à Aside from the fact that this website is clearly designed to promote business for the parent company, it is flawed in its logic. This website presumes that the cost of doctor education is the only factor driving rising health care costs. While this is certainly an issue, it is not the only one and quite possibly not the predominant one. In addition to initial education costs, doctors face the expenses of medical malpractice insurance and rapidly expanding technology expenses. Though not every doctorââ¬â¢s office will require the ability to offer patients a PET scan, every doctor does need to be equipped and medical technology is not inexpensive. In addition, like any business, doctorââ¬â¢s must factor basic overhead into their expenses and therefore into their prices.à Initiatives like HIPPA, the Health Information Privacy Protection Act, have cost medical professionals thousands to implement and that cost is ultimately passed on to the patient. This website fails to consider any of these other contributing factors. The second website considered is entitled ââ¬Å"American Health Care Reformâ⬠. This site is strictly in favor of a one-payer health care system. I was not surprised to discover this, but found it interesting that the great majority of sites I visited looking for information about health care reform went immediately to the single-payer model. Like many others, à this site points to the world models, arguing that the United states is the only industrialized nation in the world without socialized medicine. This particular website seems useful as it includes anecdotal testimonials about problems with the current system and links to resources including Congressional hearings on the issue. It also has links to major news stories about health care innovation and reform across the country including Californiaââ¬â¢s attempt to get health care for all Californians.à Though the bias in favor of a one-payer system is evident, it is at least a known bias and can be accounted for in the discussions. The third website reviewed was the ââ¬Å"Alliance for health Care Reformâ⬠. This organization claims in its mission statement to be a non-profit, non-partisan look at the American health care system. The site calls the health care system ââ¬Å"a work in progressâ⬠and regularly holds educational forums attempting to present a balanced view of the health care issues of the country and the potential solutions. The alliance claims to have no political agenda and does not lobby for a specific solution, according to the mission statement. This could be a very valuable resource for the upcoming discussion.à The site provides valuable links to current initiatives regarding health care reform and policy briefs which explain current situations and proposed solutions. Finally, I examined the website entitiled ââ¬Å"health care Reform: The Good, the Bad and the Uglyâ⬠.à Initially, I was excited about this website as the author of the lead article is or was the director of the Georgia Public Policy Intitute and the academic bent to the website seemed to lend it credence. Then, I saw the date. The lead article was written 15 years ago. Though I think this site can provide some perspective on the length and continued cycles of the debate about health care reform in the United States,à I am inclined to believe that its data will have to be seriously updated or will be insignificant to a debate on the current status of health care in America and what needs to be done to fix it. I may still use this website as a starting point as it has good information from the time and may follow up to see what actions have resulted from the debate in 1992. There are many health care initiatives taking place in the United State right now. In Massachusetts, the state mandated that every adult have health insurance beginning July 1. In Illinois, the state has created a sort of single-payer cooperative with insurance companies to create the ââ¬Å"All Kidsâ⬠program, allegedly designed to ensure that all children have adequate health care coverage. In California, debate continues about the governorââ¬â¢s call to provide health care for all Californians.à I think one of the most interesting parts of this discussion of reform versus socialization will be to look at the varying attempts at reform and evaluate their successes. à WORKS CONSULTED ââ¬Å"Alliance for Health Care Reformâ⬠allhealth.org/, July 17, 2007. ââ¬Å"American Health Care Reform ââ¬Å" http://americanhealthcarereform.org/index.html, July 17, 2007. ââ¬Å"Health Care Reform: Attacking the Root Problemâ⬠World Health Education Initiative health-care-reform.net/index.htm, July 17, 2007.
